Hello Everyone! For the past couple of nights I have been staying at our family friends’ river house in York, Maine and in my Grandma’s house in Wellesley, Massachusetts. We have had the best time jumping into the cold, frigid waters off of both a bridge and off of their lobster boat. The boat is named Gertrude Steele after our friend John’s grandmother. The vintage dress I am wearing in these next couple of photos is one that my uncle picked up in Paris back in 1993, and that my mom wore for her Rehearsal Dinner! Everything in fashion is constantly reinvented and redone, the same themes and trends are repeated throughout time. One piece that may have been haute couture thirty years ago can be brought back now and something similar can be seen traipsing down the Parisian runways today. Ralph Lauren is my favorite designer because he manages to capture a feeling of an era, and make a collection around it that is timeless. Ralph Lauren has a great quote, “Study the classics. Write your own rules.” I love this quote. In the world of fashion, I sometimes see in huge magazines that everything is just spot-on trend. But those who create their style regardless of trends are the ones that capture a timeless style. “Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. Style is forever.” -Ralph Lauren

This next drawing is one that I drew from the Dolce and Gabbana autumn child collection! I used a variety of pencils and smudging stubs to bring this drawing to life. Many of Dolce and Gabbana’s collections shift through both the adult clothing to the children’s attire; both take on the same themes brought out in the mood boards from the designing headquarters to the runway shows. In this season, this woodsy fairy tale is brought from a child’s story book onto the slender models. The coat this little girl is wearing is red, evoking the dress of Little Red Riding Hood. Both the buttons on the coat and the headband are made of glittering stones! Any child would smile just looking at this charming piece!
