The Island Life

Hello Everyone! I have been spending the fourth of July holidays on Nantucket island! I truly love Nantucket. From the people to the cobblestone streets, it always manages to charm me! Nantucket has an air about it that is easy going. Islanders pull off a preppy style, the men in chino shorts and boat shoes and the women in pretty dresses and strappy sandals. Everything is so picturesque. When I was walking down the beach I saw three little kids in matching seersucker bathing suits all in a row on top of a log licking their ice cream bars. This is what summer is all about, the good times! My favorite places to shop around are Ralph Lauren and Lilly Pulitzer. Both of these designers capture the islander feel, the Nantucket feel. I stumbled upon a new boutique called Atlantic. When you walk in the first floor is filled with old antiques and it is not until you go up the stairs and to the second floor that you reach the Indian handmade clothing. The blouse I am wearing in the next couple of photos is one made by the brand Injiri from Atlantic. I always look for pieces that have cool draping or fastenings and a lot of their fashions have both of these things! This blouse buttons at the top and drapes down on either side. The fabric is a light airy material that has both the preppy plaid and also the sea foam colors of the Madaket beach behind me! Enjoy!

xoxo,

Cecilia Roses

My Look: Injiri blouse, j. crew chino shorts, GAP tank top, Nantucket basket necklace, and as always my locket

I have been drawing from my Illustration Now! Fashion book. Both of these drawings take on a surreal, elegant design. The birds seen in the drawings, spanning from the common duck to the beautiful swan, bring out the grace in each of these seemingly simple dresses. I have been reading from Christian Dior’s Little Dictionary of Fashion. Dior points out the beauty in simplicity. Simplicity can be good… simplicity actually may show off your elegance!
