New Orleans New Year

Hello Everyone! I am kicking off the New Year in New Orleans. 2014 was a year filled with new experiments, new travel, and, for me, an altogether newfound love of writing to you in this blog. Blogging drives me to realize how great life is and all the beauty that is found around Chicago and in my travels. That is what fashion is, an attempt to beautify the world. I never truly realized before I started Cecilia Roses how writing about fashion and writing about what I see draws attention to the small beauties of life; the ways we are constantly experimenting with our closets and with our emotions and ideas to build our own personal character unique to us.

This is perhaps the reason why being in New Orleans could not be any better way to welcome in the New Year; New Orleans is more unique than any other place I have ever been in the States. There is nowhere like it; the city is colorful, the buildings all different muted shades of yellows, blues, and pinks. The city’s personality is thriving as Sugar Bowl fans striped with painted faces yell “Roll Tide” down the street for the game later tonight. Despite the communal hate for the rival fans, the people are happy and easy going, drinks in hand and yelling, “Happy New Year” to whomever comes their way. Chicago is known for its music but sadly it does not compare to the music vibe of New Orleans, at least here in the French Quarter where I am staying at the fabulous W Hotel. There are trumpet players leaning out of windows and bands at every diner. Every street is the home to its own show of performers, some flipping over audience members, others painted in silver and break dancing, and a man balancing at the top of a ten-foot ladder in the middle of the street. My favorite thing about travel is absorbing the culture. Let me tell you, this city has more personality and culture than any other city in America. I simply love it. Here’s to 2015, a year dedicated to redefining fashion as the primary mode of defining character and embracing culture.  Happy New Year, everyone.

xoxo,

Cecilia Roses

The New Year marks a new beginning for goals and aspirations. I decided that I would make a drawing a day in 2015. 365 drawings in 365 days. Day 1:
